Founded by Jon Hillgren in 2011, the Hernö gin distillery is located in the village of Dala just outside the City of Härnösand in Ångermanland, Sweden. At the time it was Sweden’s first dedicated gin distillery and the world’s northernmost gin distillery. Hernö Gin is the most awarded gin in Europe for the fourth year in a row. All Hernö gins are one-shot-gins, only diluted with water, from Hernö’s own well, and not chill-filtered.
Hernö Gin is a round and smooth London dry gin, with a juniper character, fresh citrus notes and a floral complexity which makes the gin very enjoyable on its own. It uses eight botanicals, all certified organic: Juniper berries from Hungary, Coriander seeds from Bulgaria, Lemon that is peeled by hand, Lingon berries from Sweden, Meadowsweet from the United Kingdom, Black Pepper from India, Cassia from Indonesia and fresh Vanilla from Madagascar.
HERNÖ NAVY STRENGTH GIN
Hernö Navy Strength Gin is made from the same distilled gin as Hernö Gin. The difference is water. Hernö Navy Strength Gin is diluted to 57% while Hernö Gin is diluted down to 40.5%. Hernö Navy Strength Gin gets bolder juniper, coriander, citrus and overall richer in flavour.
HERNÖ OLD TOM GIN
Hernö Old Tom Gin is made from the same distilled gin as Hernö Gin and Hernö Navy Strength Gin except Hernö Old Tom Gin has an extra amount of Meadowsweet in the distillation and after diluting it down to 43% a touch of honey is added. The sweetening of Old Tom lifts the floral notes, releases an array of juniper and makes it even smoother.
HERNÖ JUNIPER CASK GIN
Hernö Gin Distillery is the first distillery in the world to mature gin in casks made out of juniper wood. They have manufactured unique casks made of juniper wood only in casks sized 39.25 litres. This gin is gently matured for 30 days before being bottled at 47%. Hernö Juniper Cask Gin is intense, inviting and engaging. It has a herbal sweetness to start with followed by more intense juniper notes finishing with a long harmonious hint of citrus peel.
HERNÖ SLOE GIN
Scandinavia’s first Sloe Gin was launched by Hernö Gin in autumn of 2015. It is based on Hernö London Dry Gin and made as a traditional Sloe Gin. They let organic sloe berries rest in the gin for three months and are gently sweetened afterwards. The sloes give it a gentle dryness that is balanced with the sweeting. The original Hernö characteristics are still there, juniper forward and floral freshness. It goes very well in a gin and tonic, a French 75 or just on its own with a little ice.
